Welcome!
As long as I can remember I have been a story teller. I have used literature as my escape from reality, my shelter from the storm, a way to relieve boredom, and a way to gain knowledge. I have been through many trials and tribulations in my life and have experienced times of pure joy and love. Through all the phases of my life there have been a few constants.
Number one has been and always will be my family. I have a very large extended family. I love each and every one of them to distraction. Our family has struggled through the loss of loved ones, life-saving miracles, trauma, pain, cancer and abuse. Always, we have been reborn stronger and closer than ever before. In my heart and in my mind this rebirth is symbolized as a butterfly. You will find a butterfly in all my work as a symbol for my family, they will always be with me.
Number two is my faith in Jesus Christ. I am respecter of all persons and of all beliefs. The greatest message of Christ’s ministry is the message of Love. We cannot Love if we do not respect other’s opinions. Although you will find a thread of Christianity in all my work, I respect all beliefs and welcome the voice of anyone who is interested in the Haven novels.
Number three is my love of learning. When I was a small child I used to play school with my siblings. I always had to be the teacher. I have been an educator for many years and I intend to be an educator for the rest of my life. Currently, I teach English at both the high school and college level. The job is challenging and often times unrewarding. However, there are those moments when a student realizes what I am teaching them has value; or sometimes, they just realize I care about them and want them to be successful. At those moments I know I have the greatest reward of all. Many times those moments happen over the timeless themes found in a piece of literature. Those moments are magical.
Finally, literature is the constant thread keeping me tied to all of these. I can find myself through scripture, the classic works of Shakespeare, a simple piece of fantasy, a poem or a note in a family journal, a timeless classic or a new classic bursting forth to spark the heart and the imagination. Each one strikes a thread in my heart and sings in my soul.
My hope is for the stories I write to find a place in readers’ hearts the same way literature has found a place in my heart. Join me on my journey in imagination and finding a world beyond your own.
Sincerely,
